Music videos aren’t confined to being all pretty these days. While the voice of the singer needs to be magical, the screenplay and story is what matters the most to make a music video view-able. The trend of music videos is finally coming back which had taken over most of the 90s. All thanks to the music distributors today, they’re keen on reviving it for the new generation.
One such singing gem who made girls weak on their knees is Karan Oberoi who rocked the early 2000s with his looks and voice. Earlier part of India’s one and only Indipop boy band back then, ‘A Band Of Boys’ whose most memorable song was ‘Meri Neend’ from the album ‘Yeh Bhi Wo Bhi’.
The man is back with his solo single this time titled ‘Challa‘ which has been released by country’s magnanimous distributor ‘Eros Now’. Produced by Crooner Studios, this song is a fresh take on the Punjabi classic folk Challa which has been remade in the most sophisticated manner. The song has a comical feel to it where we are taken through the memory lane of a guy in Love with the girl, played by the gorgeous Anisa who was seen in films like ‘Baat Bann Gayi‘, ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ and ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara‘, who betrays him. The guy is seen preparing himself to take his revenge from the other guy in his leading lady’s life. We are paused at his most romantic moments with the girl again with the whole cartoon-ish transition. He gets ready for his revenge and rides to the place where she’s hooking up with the new guy. He shoots the guy right in the head to save his girl who has been bought by the ‘other’ guy but to his surprise he himself gets shot by the girl he was madly in love with. This climax ensures the uniqueness of the entire concept from the usual music videos we get to see today.
Karan’s charm hasn’t changed a day since the early 2000s. His voice that we all missed takes us back leaving one and all nostalgic. Anisa who plays the sweet girl turned bold murderer looked absolutely sizzling in her rare lingerie outing in the climax. Given how the story develops and ends, the video has been named ‘The Setup’ and I couldn’t agree more.
Music is given by well known Punjabi composer Sargam Jassu and the lyrics have been penned by Preeti Verma.
